One; Labor Day. I wanted to play a bunch of songs honouring various people's labours and professions. That aspect of the set was not quite as thorough as it might have been, as my wife's mom just passed away recently, and we're still reeling from the loss, making funeral arrangements, dealing with estate issues, etc. Which brings me to the second major influence on the set this time: Mominlaw was very very fond of Neil Diamond, and it seemed both poignant and appropriate to give her a musical toast via a mini-set of tunes by that (IMO) excellent singer/songwriter. There were also quite a few other excellent requests made. One thing I love about taking requests is that my friends/audience usually have both excellent and excellently eclectic tastes in music. This makes for sets that are both excellent and excellently eclectic. Sometimes I can look back on my sets and tell at a glance who was there. And sometimes I can look back at my sets and glimpse a group mind that I could never have imagined, even though my repertoire is at it's centre. Ultimately, each set does develop a unique personality. Still. Even after decades. Thanks to every one who tuned in and helped make this night the unique creature that it was.
